Deficient Emptiness pervades our culture

I keep going back and listening to interviews by Dr. Gabor Mat’e from Canada. He covers so much of what has gone on psychologically for the last 70 years. He covers from when he was 1 year old and given to a stranger to today in world culture. None of what goes on in today’s culture misses too many people worldwide. There are some tribes that are not connected to the Internet or news at all. But, when I listen to Dr. Mat’e, he is talking to anyone and everyone. But, one of the most important to me was the following:

“A sense of deficient emptiness pervades our entire culture. The drug addict is more painfully conscious of their void than most people and has limited means of escaping it. The rest of us find other ways of suppressing our fear of emptiness or distracting ourselves from it.” Powerful words this man has written over the years.

Deficient Emptiness pervades our culture

I personally have known drug addicts over the years and the above quote is exactly how these young men went through the years before their middle years. As a person who has always tried to be careful with what I put into my body that will affect my brain/mind. I watched these 2 young men come close to ending their lives because of addictions. They both have quit drugs but since either will admit their addictions they both drink alcoholic beverages.

These young men were sensitive to what went on around them. Dr. Mat’e says that children need to connect t somebody. I understand, and saw that in my 3 children. I can tell you almost the date that 2 of the children moved from connected to me to being connected to their peer group.
