Things I wish I had known in Middle School

Spread the love

I am listing some items that I believe would have helped me in Middle School. These are just some of my ideas looking back over the years since I have been in Middle School but I hope that some of them can be helpful to you and YOUR child at this time in their life

It is ok to be sad

That teachers are people too. I remember I had a teacher I did not care for and complained to my mother but instead of offering to change teachers for me she said, “Listen, nobody is going to love you as I do, go to class, do your best and next you will have a teacher you like.” End of story-I went to class, did my best, and the next year I had a teacher I liked.

Cut everyone some slack. Since we never know what is really going on in someone else’s life, it is best to cut everyone some slack.

Focus on WHO you want to be. That person who does their homework so they get good grades. And that person who writes for the school paper or sings in the choir. That person who enjoys sports and takes part in all kinds of school activities.

Growing up and developing is just as hard for YOUR child in today’s environment as it was growing up when it during your years. Know what is available if YOUR child is:

anxious

has depression

cannot get up for school

has anger management problems

There are probably groups in your city that deals with any of the above issues or more. Or the school counselor should be able to direct you into the correct area of expertise.

Some children will go through childhood into adulthood with ease, others will have a mired of difficulties. Be there with a toolbox and a code that will fit you and your family and child,
