Childhood Asthma and Trauma.
I have been listening to Dr. Gabor Mate now for a while and I have learned so much. You need to listen to some of his podcasts or interviews. He goes through so much. I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter who is 50 now. My marriage and relationship with my husband were getting more difficult. I did not work full time until I was over 40, and had worked very little before that. It was probably the first time I actually noticed how stressed I was becoming. The children’s dad was an alcoholic whose mental state and drinking became worse and worse over the years. My daughter was born with Asthma and allergies, at that time they would not give those shots until 4-1/2 years old. So the pediatrician just gave penicillin time after time before the shots. She weighed 28 pounds at 4-1.2 years before shots. I know that that illness came about because of the trauma I was going through at that time. I did focus on raising my children to be “Free to be Me”. I believed that to be important in their lives. I was a good role model and when she was a teenager I got a divorce from the children’s dad.
The 3 children, 6 years apart, are very close and all 3 are independent, strong, have courage, and are loving people. My goal for a parent turned out good, but there certainly have been some issues with the 2 boys. I do believe the male role model was not good. They had wonderful grandparents on both sides of the family. And just because I divorced their dad I did not divorce their father’s family. So that was a good thing because they have wonderful childhood memories of their grandparents. After the divorce, I had a limited budget and made it work. I received no alimony or child support.
