Self-Determination for YOUR child’s life.

It does not just happen or come over-night.

Self-Determination for YOUR child’s life. It is defined as having abilities and opportunities to steer one’s life in a direction that contributes to a personally satisfying life. Equipping students with the skills, attitudes, and opportunities to play an active and prominent role in their learning and planning for their future. A lot is written about self-determination for children with disabilities so they can be part of future planning. But, I believe that ALL children and especially YOUR child should have a part in their planning for their future. They will do this by letting you know what skills and attitudes they have in life as YOU and YOUR child develop over the years.

Self-Determination for YOUR child’s life.

There are 7 components skills that are associated with self-determination:

1. Choice

2. Decision-making

3. Problem-solving

4. Goal setting

5. Leadership

6. Self-management

7. Self-awareness

Self-Determination for YOUR child’s life.

Once again there is a role-model component that goes with YOUR Child’s Self-Determination. You are the leader and if they see that YOU just go ahead and get it done it is easy for YOUR child to do that also. Stepping up to the plate so to speak is what YOU do as the parent. YOU are the most important person in your child’s life. And therefore, you have to be that role model in everything they do until they reach 18. It is important that your teachings are about good, about being empowered to excel and succeed whatever they do in life. Those negative things will keep them from reaching their potential. From being that success they know they can be. If you have the courage then they have courage. And when you empower yourself they will feel empowered. YOU cannot let down your guard. That means you cannot be tired all the time or be consumed with friends, TV., or going out with others. It means being at home when they are at home. But finding fun ways to empower YOUR children.

Responsibility for YOUR Life.
