My Grandson is going into Middle School this fall. I asked him to write a little article about what was important to him. The following paragraph is from Gage.
Some schools give your kid a tour before the first day of middle school. But others are not so lucky. Maybe they do not have the funding. And maybe the school does not do it so you learn how to learn on your own. Nicknames. Nicknames at my school are BIG for seventh graders. Seventh graders are called “sevees” by the eighth graders. They are the “top dogs” on campus.
So remember each of us is unique so everyone going into Middle School is different. It is apparently important to Gage to get a tour of the school and being low man on the totem pole. That was interesting to me. But, Gage is like a young adult. He has a 2-year-old sister so he was an only child for years. Being an only child can mean the child is treated as a young adult always. And they can be confident and self-disciplined before Middle School. Gage is a typical only child. He is ahead of some children going into Middle School. And he knows how to plan time and schedule. But, I am sure there are going to be some things he does not know. He is going to take AP Science and he is not sure he will be able to make it. But his teacher had to recommend Gage so I am sure he will do his best to make the good grades.
The school district Gage attends is a suburb of Tulsa and is divided up very interesting. Fifth and Sixth graders have separate schools. Seventh and Eighth graders are together. The ninth grade is a separate school. And then into High School of the tenth through Twewth. His mother went to the same school district and that was why she wanted Gage to go there. It is ranked as one of the top school districts in Oklahoma.
