Family Team

There is no “I” in team

The team teaches cooperation. Team victories develop closeness

Family members who work together can help balance each others’ strengths and weaknesses and bring everyone closer together.Parents who work as a team have a positive impact on their children’s emotions and relationships.Kids who work ad a team can increase their sibling bond, tend to watch out for each other and want to help and take care of one another

Working together makes each member of the family feel good.Teamwork increases good feelings for both the helper and the person being helped.YOUR family is already like a team. Each individual family member brings skill, personality, and role to the family team.As a whole, the family shares a history and goals, just as the team works together to win a game.

Providing an opportunity for learning, trying things out, or accepting defeat is an important role of the family. As a family team, we can help each other get through tough times. The majority of the time we should all be happy and positive. Working together as a family includes discussing things as a family that is often very helpful for dealing with concerns and negotiating solutions to conflicts before they get bigger. This is working as a team just as going outdoors and playing tag football or a game of basketball – it all matters and it is an everyday event to be together – whether raking the yard in the fall, planting flowers in the spring, or going ice skating in the winter. It all matters to the child and the family teamwork.

One of the really important items that the family can do is to create a family mission statement. What is the family Mission Statement going to be for the next year?

Here are a few family team building activities:

  • Ice Cream Party on Friday night movie night

  • A day at the pool or lake with a picnic after cleaning the yard

  • Relay races around the block after dinner

  • Trip to ballpark or stadium for a treat

  • Volunteer day at the Nursing Home with homemade cookies

  • Game night

One of my children’s favorite memories from childhood is when we made Christmas cookies every year – everyone got to choose what kind of Christmas cookie they wanted to make and we all worked together on all the different cookies and had a wonderful time and good memories.
