Each of us can become addicted to anything. I work very hard not to overeat because I have a food problem and hypothyroidism. But, most of us know that the worse addicts are alcoholics, drug addicts, and smokers. My sister became an alcoholic when she was in high school. My children’s father became an alcoholic in high school. My youngest son started drinking when he was 13 and then went on to pot and other drugs. These cause critical problems as people are developing because our brains are not fully developed until we are in our mid-twenties.
But, when anyone goes over that X-factor line and cannot stop during destructive behavior by themselves than their life changes. It changes in the fact that they stop developing at that time. You can notice these people in your family all the time. It is unusual to have a family that does not have one or more addicts in their family circle.
It may usually start around Middle School. When the child is going from dependent on YOU their parent to becoming independent and making their own decisions. That is why it is important to give them their own Toolbox that has all the tools they need for not becoming an addict. The following things will help a person not becoming an addict.
These items need to become part of each person from birth. It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to see that this wonderful baby grows and develops so they will become the adult with a Life’s Purpose. Whatever that purpose is, but when their development stops that will not work well.
These little ones are precious and innocent that grows into functioning adults. We are precious humans who all want to feel happy and have joy but life can get in the way. Take care of these children and yourself.
